SIBU: A man who allegedly turned a neighbourhood into his ‘shooting gallery’ was yesterday ordered by court here to be remanded for two days to facilitate police investigation into public complaints.

Residents in Lane 8 Kwong Ang Road were said to be living in fear because of the rampant shootings allegedly carried out by the 50-something man.

They had complained to police, claiming that walls, glass panels of houses and cars had been hit by pellets.

They told police that the shootings were not confined to specific hours.

After months of investigation, a police team led by Inspector Fazirul Mohd Fisol descended on a house in the neighbourhood around 8pm last Thursday.

A 22-year-old man answered the door but slammed it shut when police identified themselves.

In a short while, when he opened the door for police, two persons, believed to be his parents, were with him.

Police found inside the house a home-made air-gun and a bucket containing about 50 marbles in the master bedroom.

They also seized from the house two parangs and a bottle of methanol liquid.

It was said that the elderly man, believed to be the father of the 22-year-old, later admitted to police that he did use the air-gun to shoot birds in the neighbourhood.
