KOTA KINABALU: A 25-year-old man died on the spot when his Proton Wira lost control and hit the barrier wall of the flyover at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) Terminal 1 here yesterday.
Calvin Tan Kee Hui was heading from Kota Kinabalu to Putatan when he lost control of his vehicle around 4.30am.
His body was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post mortem.
The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, a secondary school student is feared drowned after he fell into the Pegalan River in Keningau while trying to retrieve his shoes at 2.57pm on Sunday.
District Fire and Rescue Department officer Janil Jaya told reporters here yesterday that the 13-year-old victim, Mohd Sukri Salimin, 13, is from Kampung Sigapon near here.
Janil said the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the victim went fishing in the river with his father and friends.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim fell into the river and was swept away by the strong river currents while attempting to retrieve his shoes which dropped into the river.
Those who were present at the scene feared the victim may have drowned after he was swept away by the strong currents of the Pegalan river but said that efforts to locate him is still on-going, he said.
Janil said the search and rescue effort on Sunday will continue today involving members of the Keningau Fire and Rescue Department and assisted by personnel from the diving unit of the Tenom and Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station.
