BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Eight people, six of whom were locals and two foreign nationals were apprehended in a raid yesterday for suspected narcotics abuse at a government barrack in Kg Pintu Malim,  ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

In a raid launched by Narcotics Control Bureau, the suspects aged between twenty nine and forty four were detained after drug related paraphernalia were found on them.

They were investigated for offences under Section 6 (a), 6 (b) and 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27.

NCB reminded homeowners not to allow their residence to be used for drug activity, saying that it is an offence under Section 9 of the Misuse of Drugs Act that carries a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment, a fine of BND$40,000 or both.

On Saturday, at a house in Kg Junjongan, NCB arrested three siblings aged between twenty six and thirty for drug trafficking.

Cash believed from the proceeds was seized by the authority.

The trio were investigated for offences under Section 3A, 6 (b) and 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

As of the first quarter of this year, NCB has arrested fifteen people, thirteen of whom are men and two women, at Brunei’s control posts.

Ten were detained at Sg Tujoh, four in Labu and one at Serasa Ferry Terminal. Enforcement at control posts including Brunei International Airport is a priority of NCB, which is being assisted by local and foreign agencies in ensuring the Sultanate is not used as a hub for drug trafficking.

Among the significant cases is the seizure in January this year when NCB foiled an attempt to bring into a neighboring country synthetic drugs through Brunei using public transportation.

Among the drugs found were Ketamin, Nimetazepam (Erimin 5) and MDMA.

NCB also said two Al-Islah convicts who escaped from the rehabilitation centre had been traced and brought back following a public tip-off.

The two have resumed their treatment and rehabilitation programme.

On news report on the misuse of Ketum drug, NCB confirmed that to date, the bureau had never made such arrests.

It was also confirmed that the plant is not grown in this country and that it is listed as controlled drugs in the Misuses of Drugs Act, Chapter 27.
