KUCHING: Many youths are still unaware and have not registered as members of OurYouth.my, a Sarawak’s NGO and web portal dedicated to the development of youths that was launched in 2012.

The portal has the latest news postings, higher learning opportunities and scholarships available, a platform to keep youths updated on community events and many more.

Initiated by Conqueror’s Vision Sdn Bhd, the semi-voluntary web portal project Ouryouth.my has 4,000 registered members to-date and over 10,500 followers on Facebook.

“Membership is open to young Malaysian adults, aged 18 to 40, to sign up for free. They can register online at members.ouryouth.my and collect their membership card at our roadshows,” said Conqueror’s Vision Sdn Bhd business development/event manager Clara Liew.

It organises and provides support for community events that benefit youths like sports, workshops, seminars and charity drives to promote participation.

Members also enjoy discounts and privileges from more than 40 participating merchants which you can find out more about on OurYouth.my Facebook page.

“OurYouth.my is taking the next step. We are opening up our local magazine ‘Happenings in Sarawak’ as a platform for youths to express themselves and as learning ground for those keen to experience the industry of creativity in branding and publishing. The new direction of the magazine themed ‘From the Youths and For the Youths’ will be launched by end of the month,” she said.

“The new concept of Happenings enables any relevant corporate organisation to hear from and speak to youths who are the ultimate consumers and future leaders of our society. By supporting this youth-run magazine that serves as a transitional learning ground for young working adults/fresh graduates/students, they also play a part in contributing to our community. We hope to create many more win-win situations that benefit all parties involved while supporting a good cause.”

The magazine is in the midst of production. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing with the universities involved will be held soon, along with the release of the magazine in May.
