KENINGAU: Umno Youth information chief Jamawi Jaafar has condemned the flying of the Israeli flag at a resort in Tuaran.

“Even if the reason is just to shoot a film on the World Stewardess competition, it is apparent that the resort owners and the authority issuing filming permits are not aware of the current issue,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

He is calling on the Home Ministry and the authorities concerned to investigate and take appropriate action on this issue.

Jamawi said this is a matter of concern as Israel does not have any diplomatic relations with Malaysia.

Jamawi, who is Tenom Umno Youth chief, also urged for the movie that has been made to be seized and clips of it displaying the flag or stewardess of the state of Israel be excised.

“The owner of the resort should also be held responsible and be made to publicly apologize for his actions,” he added.

He said Umno Youth had lodged a police report late Monday afternoon at the Tuaran police station for a full investigation into the matter. He said the youth movement had also sought clarification from the resort and they have given specific reasons for the filming of the movie by a film company from China.

“The film relates to a global competition of stewardess. And what I have to say is that they do not appear to understand current issues and the sensitivities of Umno Youth.

“The explanation given is unacceptable and we want the relevant authorities, including the police, to investigate into this matter,” he said.

Jamawi said he believed that police had interrogated the operators and resort owners and some documents were seized late yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Star Sabah chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, when contacted yesterday, said Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

“Could this be a game of provocation by certain people?” he asked.

Jeffrey, who is also Bingkor assemblyman, called on the authorities to investigate and seek clarification from the owner of the resort.
