PUTATAN: Four people, including two police personnel, sustained injuries during a police roadblock along the Putatan/Kota Kinabalu Road, near Taman Jumbo, Petagas here early yesterday morning.

The incident happened when a Perodua Kancil car rammed into police personnel after it was knocked from behind by a Proton Waja car around 1.20am.

It was learnt that prior to the incident, the Kancil had been stopped for routine check when the driver of the Waja, who was on his way to the state capital from Putatan, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the rear of the Kancil.

The impact cause the Kancil to move forward and hit the two police personnel who were standing guard in the area.

All four victims however only sustained minor injuries and the driver of the Waja was detained for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Penampang police chief DSP Ratan Kumar Singh when contacted yesterday, confirmed the incident.

“No unwanted incident happened and all the victims, in their 20s, including the two police personnel only sustained minor injuries,” he said, adding that they were then taken to the hospital for outpatient treatment.

Singh therefore urged the public to be more careful and to slow down when approaching police roadblocks.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
