Calling on youths to attend ‘Youth Green X-Change’ seminar

KUCHING: Youths here aged 18 to 30 are invited to register for the ‘Youth Green X-Change’ seminar at Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce (TAZA) Auditorium, Teachers Education Institute Batu Lintang Campus here on April 22.

The registration for this seminar which initially ended on April 11 is now extended to April 16. The registration is free of charge.

The ‘Youth Green X-Change’ is an environmental outreach programme organised by the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak together with Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM), World Wide Fund for Nature – Malaysia (WWF – Malaysia), Department of Environment, Sarawak Energy Berhad

and supported by Trienekens Sarawak and Teachers Education Institute Batu Lintang Campus.

The objectives of the programme are to encourage environmental stewardship among the youth by inculcating knowledge, skills, values and dissemination of accurate environmental

information; and to engage youth in sustainable development processes.

The programme will start with a seminar on April 22, in conjunction with Earth Day 2014. Themed “Youth in

Sustainable Development”, the programme will be launched by Datu Len Talif Saleh, Assistant Minister of Environment Sarawak.

The seminar will highlight three environmental topics, viz Solid Waste Management, Roles and Importance

of Rivers and Renewable Energy. Other activities include performances, games, exhibitions and quiz.

Following the seminar, a series of environmental photography, short film and essay competitions will be held for the youth in Sarawak.

A category for feature writing will also be available for contestants from the journalism fraternity. Winners of the competitions will take home attractive prizes

and will be invited for a youth forum which is to be held in October 2014 in conjunction with Malaysian Environmental Week 2014.

About 200 youth from higher learning institutions, teachers’ education institutes, youth associations, ethnic and faith-based associations are expected to participate in this one-day seminar.

The ‘Youth Green X-Change’ programme is part of NREB’s 20th anniversary activity.
