KOTA KINABALU: Gary Chong Wil Yank majoring in Graphic Design at Sabah Institute of Art (SIA), won the logo design competition hosted by the Malaysia Darts Corporation recently.

He received a RM150 cash prize from Dominic Andrew, the co-founder and curator of MDC, and witnessed by Professor Dato Dr Wilson Yong, CEO of SIA and Rizal Malik, SIA’s operation manager.

Students from different majors have submitted their design, hoping to contribute in the Malaysia darting scene.

The winning logo was picked from more than 30 entries received from students of SIA. The rigorous process of choosing the best design involved staff and management of Malaysian Dart Corporation.

This is one of Malaysia Darts Corporation’s activities for this year and one of their objectives to cultivate the interest among young audience of dart games and bringing this sport professional in Sabah.

MDC recently sanctioned the Sabah dart tournament organised by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall and will again sanction several upcoming local competitions.

“As part of identifying the next generation talent programme, the Malaysian Dart Corporation will also work toward organising the Sabah Youth Dart Competition in the hopes to bring out more talent in all walks of life as well as to remove bad perception about the game and to make it as an annual professional tournament in Sabah,” said Andrew.

The Malaysia Dart Corporation recently introduced a globally recognised and utilised ranking system into Malaysia darting scene and named it the Borneo Order of Merit.

They are now working towards implementing this ranking system in Malaysia.

In Sabah, darters who collected sufficient points throughout the ranking cycle, will automatically be placed at top 16 in at coming MDC Darts Masters (Sabah Closed).
