SIBU: A 61-year-old taxi driver and his two women passengers were injured in a five-vehicle pile-up in Tunku Abdul Rahman Road near Star Mega Mall here yesterday.

The vehicles were heading towards the direction of Sibu Airport when the accident struck around 8.30am.

A trailer was said to have rammed into the rear of a taxi, catapulting it to hit a van in front.

The impact of the collision caused the van to ram into the rear of a 4-wheel-drive vehicle which subsequently hit the rear of a car in front.

The taxi driver injured his neck and the back of his head while his two women passengers at the backseat, aged 29 and 41, sustained minor injuries.

The other passenger in the front seat, a man aged 37, escaped unhurt.

The accident snarled up traffic for a while.

Meanwhile, a 53-year-old man injured his left thigh and chin and was bleeding from the nose when a car allegedly knocked into him around 11.30pm last Sunday in Lanang Road.
