MIRI: Mirians, particularly health and nature enthusiasts are urged to come in full force today for the 11th Hornbill Walk at Piasau Camp as a show of appreciation to the state government for gazetting the camp as a nature reserve on April 3.

Piasau Camp Miri Nature Park Society president Datuk Sebastian Ting said those deciding to join the walk should help make it a special occasion.

They can bring playcards or use whatever medium to convey their thanks to the government for making their dream come true. Participants can also bring food or drinks to be shared as practised in the past walks, as a sign of fellowship.

“The gazette is a wonderful and memorable legacy for the people of Miri and for that matter the people of Sarawak, now and into the future. Our future generations will greatly benefit from this historical day. So let’s show our big thank you and make the nature reserve a success,” Ting urged.

The Hornbill Walk was among the efforts taken by the society along with the Malaysian Nature Society, Miri Chapter, and the public in drumming support to gazette the camp as a public park or nature reserve for the conservation of the flora and fauna as well as the protected species of birds particularly hornbills in the camp.

During the walk, one can catch sight of the hornbills in the camp.

Admission is free. The starting point is at the former Tenby International School and it will start at 4pm.

Besides the walk, there will also be sale of merchandise including T-shirts, to raise funds for the various activities to be held by PCMNPS. There will also be registration of new members.
