Nominations open for Outstanding Young M’sian Awards 2014


GEORGE TOWN: Qualified youths can vie for the 10 Outstanding Young Malaysian Awards 2014 organised by Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCIM).

Organising chairman Leon Lee Toong said the competition was aimed at acknowledging the achievements of youths aged between 18 to 40 years who are outstanding in their own fields and have made significant contributions to society.

Speaking to reporters after a ceremony to launch the awards here yesterday, Leon said there were 10 categories – economics, politics, leadership, culture, religion, contribution to children and human rights, voluntary service, scientific development, personal development, and medical innovation.

He said registered organisations and individuals could also make nominations through the website before July 17.

The 30 finalists will be announced by Sept 30.

The awards, held annually since 1985, would be presented in a ceremony on  on Oct 17 at the Equatorial Hotel here.

Among the personalities who have won the awards are Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, Datuk Sheila Majid, Datuk Michelle Yeoh, Prof Datuk Zaini Ujang, Tan Sri Mohamad Nadzmi Salleh and Datuk Lee Chong Wei.
