SIBU: A woman was killed while another was seriously injured following a three-car pile-up at Mile 6 Bintangor-Sibu Road on Friday.
Seven others in the 11.30am incident sustained light injuries while two others escaped unhurt.
The deceased identified as Ling Nai Kiew, 53, died at the hospital around 4pm.
Initial investigation showed the accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Avanza heading to Sarikei from Julau lost control of the vehicle and swerved into the opposite lane.
This caused the driver of a Perodua Myvi in the opposite lane travelling to Julau to veer to the side in an attempt to avoid a collision, but it still ended up being hit in the rear.
A Toyota Ipsum behind the Myvi could not avoid colliding head-on with the Avanza.
Ling was a passenger in the Ipsum. Martha Charles Chundy, 44, a passenger in the Avanza was seriously hurt.
Both the driver and passenger of the Myvi escaped unhurt.
