KUCHING: Three Sarawak players will join the national kabbadi squad for the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea from September 19 to October 4.

They are former SMK Pending student Allexson Lian, SMK Matang Jaya’s Syazwani Aifin and Shereen Ubong.

In fact five others — Jeremy Aaron from SMK Matang Jaya, Radha from SMK Green Road, Effa Rin, Emmanirta and Gwendolyn from SMK Pending were also selected to the national team but turned down the offer to represent the country due to various reasons.

For Syazwani, who is in form five this year, it was a dream come true as she had always wanted to represent Malaysia and compete in the Asian Games.

“I feel proud and very happy to be able to play for the country and I hope we can do well in the kabbadi competition in Incheon,” she said. Echoing the same sentiment, 22-year-old Allexson, who was a member of the state Sukma squad for 2010, 2011 and 2013, said it was the first time that he will be competing at the Asian Games.

“I feel excited and I think this is a very good exposure for me,” he added.
