KUCHING: SUPP Youth expressed shock with the revelation of PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang that the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leadership council had agreed to the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

Its secretary general Wilfred Yap in a statement yesterday this showed DAP, a partner in Pakatam, does not take this issue seriously and proves very clearly that it has not been sincere with the Chinese, Indian and non-Muslims who gave DAP the majority of their votes.

He elaborated that this shows DAP cannot be relied upon to uphold their rights within the context of the Federal Constitution.

“Clearly, DAP is only interested in realizing its political agenda and is willing to do whatever it takes. Knowing the risks and the consequences, DAP insisted to align with PAS and campaigned for PAS’ candidates, defended their hudud agenda as ‘harmless to non-Muslims as long as one does not break the laws’ during elections,” he said here yesterday.

Yap pointed out that PAS’s decision to table a bill in Parliament to allow the Kelantan state government to implement hudud law clearly shows that DAP is merely ‘no action talk only’ (‘NATO’ in a mockery).

The strong opposition by Keadilan Youth Movement against DAP for asking PAS to leave Pakatan on the hudud issue is yet more evidence on the ineffectiveness of DAP to have its voice heard in Pakatan Rakyat, let alone have any substantial influence within the alliance, he added.

As such, Yap is of the opinion that DAP should do the right thing by pulling out from Pakatan to prove its sincerity and accountability to the Chinese, Indian and non-Muslim communities and also to prove that DAP is not a ‘toothless tiger’ or ‘Pak Turut’ (‘blind follower’) within Pakatan.

“DAP should not continue to betray the trust of voters who placed their hope on them with such lame statements… on the hudud issue, which can turn the landscape of our country completely around in the future,” he said.

For the record, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng told Bernama in Georgetown on Sunday that it has never agreed to the PAS move to pass hudud law on Muslims in Kelantan.
