Kuching clinch Girls U12 title

KUCHING: Kuching were crowned the champions of the Girls U12 when they overwhelmed Bintulu 111-2 in their final match at the recent MSS Sarawak U18 and U12 Basketball Championship in Bintulu.

The Kuching girls team, comprising eight players from SJK Stampin, won all their matches in the five-team league competition. Finishing in third and fourth were Miri and Betong.

In the Boys U12 competition, Kuching beat Samarahan 95-23 in the play-off to finish third. The champions were Sibu who beat Miri in the final.

Sibu swept the Boys U18 and Girls U18 titles when they beat Bintulu 66-51 and Miri 52-39 in the finals respectively.

Third and fourth in the Boys U18 contest were Miri and Kuching respectively while the Kuching and Sarikei were third and fourth in the Girls U18 competition.

The Kuching U12 boys and girls teams are managed by Bong Hon Fah, who is SJK Stampin senior assistant (co-curriculum) and basketball head coach.

Bong has also been appointed as the coach for the state’s Boys U12 team who will undergo the centralised training in Sibu from June 1-6 in preparation for the MSSM Basketball Championship in Melaka from June 7-12.

Six players from his school – one boy and five girls – were selected to represent Sarawak in the national meet.
