SIBU: More than 1,500 people thronged the waterfront of Daro town recently for the closing of a two-day Basic Introduction Programme of the People’s Volunteer Corp (Rela).

The event was enlivened with the staging of a mini expo, speedboat and jetski race as well as a blowpipe competition.

Daro assemblyman Dr Murni Suhaili officiated at the function.

In his address, he said the inaugural programme was one of the functions that united and solidified the people from different ethnic groups.

“It also puts Daro in the limelight,” he said, expressing hope that more such events could be rolled out.

State Rela director Rini Tupong, Rela Daro district officer Amran Badong, and Daro police chief DSP Wanger Lisa Libut were among those present.
