SIBU: Hwai Ann Methodist Church will lead a cleaning campaign on Tuesday (May 13) at the Au Yong residential area together with the Au Yong security and development committee (JKKK) and Seduan Neighbourhood Committee.

Church spokesperson Yong Loon Kai said they are expecting some 200 participants.

“Hopefully residents living in the area surrounding the church will also join in the campaign,” he said during a press conference on Friday.

Besides improving the cleanliness of the area, Yong said the campaign also aims to foster closer ties among the area’s residents.

Since the establishment of the Au Yong JKKK and Seduan Neighbourhood Committee, Yong said the two associations have cooperated with the church to ensure cleanliness in the area is strictly observed.

“Each time when we organise any event, we also receive good support from these two associations and we are very grateful for that,” he said.

The area involved covers Deshon Road, Pedada Road, Brooke Drive, and Pahlawan Road, where there are over 2,500 residents.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King is expected to launch the event at 7am.

Meanwhile, Au Yong JKKK secretary James Su reminded residents to leave recyclable items in front of their houses on the 15th day of each month for SMC’s trucks to collect.

“In the event that your recycled items left in front of the house are not collected, you can call SMC on 084-333411,” he added.
