KUCHING: Two workers nearly lost their lives when an underground cable exploded in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce yesterday while they were laying telephone lines.
In the 11am accident, Simon Dan, 19, was badly hurt in the face and body, with injuries worse than his co-worker, a 28-year-old Indonesian.
The two, who were working for a contractor to fix phone cables, managed to get up and walk after the explosion.
They were rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital by their co-workers for treatment. It was said that the teenager was still in hospital while the Indonesian worker was allowed to go home.
Sources said an electric cable was affected by the digging of the workers when they tried to install phone cables.
