KUCHING: There is no excuse for ratepayers not to pay assessment rates to Kuching South City Council (MBKS), even if they did not receive the assessment bills.
MBKS, in a statement here yesterday, said it will not consider waiving the default fees imposed on ratepayers for late payment of assessment rates after the due date on May 31.
Informing ratepayers that the assessment bills for the first and second half of this year had been issued and posted to them, MBKS called on those yet to receive them or had mislaid them to come to its headquarters at Jalan Padungan and have copies of bills issued to them.
The council said they can do this at the One-Stop Service Counter on the ground floor of MBKS headquarters or the Rating & Valuation Division on the second floor of the same building.
“On no account will consideration be given to waive the default fee on the ground of non-receipt of the assessment bills. To avoid having to pay the default fee, ratepayers are strongly urged to pay their assessment rates before the due dates,” it stated in the statement.
Under Section 74(1) of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996, the statement said the council will impose a default fee for late payment at a rate of one per cent per month or part thereof on any rates remaining unpaid after the due dates as printed on the assessment bills.
Ratepayers can pay the assessment rates at the payment counters on the ground floor of MBKS headquarters from 8am to 4pm on Mondays to Fridays.
Payment can also be made at the receiving counters of Sesco, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Kuching Water Board, Kedai Telekom and the Post Office in Kuching on before the due dates.
E-payment or Internet banking is another mode of payment, either by accessing www.paybillsmalaysia.com or www.mbks.gov.my, or through CIMB Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and Bank Rakyat.
