MIRI: The state Education Department is working towards realising the agenda of empowering education in the state.

Its director Datu Abdillah Adam said the Malaysia Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2013-2025 had outlined 11 strategies to achieve six aspirations.

“This year, we are in the middle of the first wave of PPPM (2013-2015). Some 14 initiatives under the PPPM have been agreed to as the main initiative for the ministry for this year.

“Out of the total number, the District Education Office (PPD) has been entrusted to implement five initiatives: Pre-school Enrolment, Baseline Standards Infrastructure, LINUS 2.0, Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS)/ Programme International Student Assessment (PISA), and District Transformation Programme,”
he said at the Miri District Education Office’s Excellent Service Awards at Imperial Hotel yesterday.

His text-of-speech was read by the deputy director Abdul Rahman Bolhassan.

Abdillah added that PPD Miri also received the placement of two persons for School Improvement Partner Plus (SIPartners+) and six persons for School Improvement Specialist Coaches Plus (SICS+) to guide the school leaders and teachers in three subjects – Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa English and Mathematics – for primary and secondary schools.

At the same time, he urged teachers, being civil servants, to respond, support and become agents of change to propel the transformation of education to a higher level.
