KUCHING: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has appointed Datuk Mohd Badlisham Ghazali as its new managing director with effect from June 23 onwards.

The airports operator in a filing to the stock exchange yesterday said Badlisham, Multimedia Development Corporation’s (MDeC) chief executive officer will take over from Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid whose term expires today.

Meanwhile, MAHB in a statement said Bashir had last year indicated his wish to make way for a successor as he would have completed 11 years of services as the managing director of MAHB.

Bashir’s stewardship underpinned the implementation of six strategic pillars that transformed the company to what it has at present.

These include the review of the organisational structure, inculcating the culture of high performance, effective stakeholder management, staff wellbeing and engagement, corporate governance; and adapting to industry changes.

MAHB noted all the six strategic pillars, together with the restructuring exercise in 2009 had enabled MAHB to become financially strong with an AAA RAM rating.

The airports operator’s yearly profits have benefitted shareholders with good dividend payments as well as staff through increase of bonus payments over the years.

In particular, MAHB pointed out that Bashir had also been instrumental in leading the team towards the completion and successful opening of klia2.

MAHB revealed that at the request of the board of directors, Bashir has agreed to stay on as an advisor to the company as his experience and knowledge of the industry continues to be valuable to the company.

In the interim, the duties of the managing director will be covered by the executive committee (ExCo), under the supervision of the board of directors of MAHB.

Badlisham at the helm of MDeC has led the development of the National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Initiatives for Malaysia.

The company said the MSC Malaysia Initiative has evolved and grown, giving rise to over 3,400 ICT companies that are innovative and globally competitive through a thriving ICT ecosystem in Malaysia.

MAHB noted the Digital Malaysia Initiative is underway growing towards a robust digital economy for Malaysia.
