PUTRAJAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, yesterday consented to the Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival be given royal status.
With that, Tuanku Abdul Halim, when opening the event at Pesisiran Tasik Presint 4 here yesterday, declared open the Putrajaya Royal Floria Festival, the name to be used for the festival from this year onwards.
The king, accompanied by the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah, was at the venue of the festival for two hours, during which the royal couple visited the exhibition booths there, as well as the Royal Park, the Cat Park and the Floral Pavilion.
Also present were Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Tan Sri Dr Aseh Che Mat.
With the theme ‘Begonia-Mesmerising Colours’, the festival, which is an annual event, displays 400,000 species of plants and flowers. It is now in its seventh year.
The nine-day festival, organised by PPj, ends on June 22.
It involves the participation of 37 international landscape designers and florists, including from the United States of America, Singapore and Taiwan.
Meanwhile, Aseh, when met by reporters, said with the festival now accorded the royal status, it was now on par with some of the international flower festivals, like the Royal Chelsea Flower Show.
The Putrajaya Royal Floria is opened to the public from 9am to 10.30pm (Monday to Thursday) and from 9am to midnight (Friday to Sunday).
The entrance fee is RM3 for an adult and RM1 for children aged between seven and 12 years-old. — Bernama
