KUCHING: Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) has last month hosted a group of selected Peninsular Malaysian association clients to north Sarawak for a familiarisation trip to Mulu and Miri.

The trip was jointly supported by Royal Mulu Resort, Eastwood Golf and Country Club, Planet Borneo Tours and Travel and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).

SCB managing director Mike Cannon highlighted that this trip gave the opportunity to association clients, who were also the decision makers from their respective organisations, to experience the unique adventure of business events offerings and services that portray the appeal of the state as a prominent business events destination.

A publicity release yesterday revealed that they kicked start the trip in the mystical forest of Mulu National Park with two days of nature’s splendour going through the various cave chambers such as the Clear Water Cave, Wind Cave, Deer Cave and Lang Cave.

The Jungle Walks and observation of the flights of millions of bats at the Bat Observatory were some of the highlights of exploring Mulu’s natural surroundings at night.

The clients had a chance to get familiar with the Berawans’ authentic culture. The Berawans are one of the tribes residing along the rivers of Mulu, which is also a Unesco heritage site, through the Kuman Burah Suneh theme party.

Meanwhile, the trip to Miri city was a mix of entertainment and business as well as discovering the trails of Miri city heritage.

Guests then swayed to the groove of jazz and blues in the natural settings of rainforest at the Borneo International Jazz Festival; and they had the chance to go ‘behind the scenes’ to attend the business forum on how to organise a successful conference in the state.

The forum provides an in-depth understanding of the business events industry and exchange of business ideas.

“The line-up of activities tailored for this familiarisation trip is to show in brief Sarawak’s old world charm well complemented by the blessings of modern technology and corporate culture – setting the state as a competitive business events destination globally,” Cannon added.

The four-day affair ended on May 11.
