SARIKEI: A lorry tanker laden with palm oil landed on its side in the drain after skidding from the road while descending the slope of Bukit Sebangkoi Road, about 24 km from here last Monday afternoon.

Both driver and attendant were not injured in the around 5pm incident as they were sending a consignment of palm oil from Saratok to Bintulu.

A high-powered crane was called to pull up the tanker which had to be emptied first to reduce its weight.

In the process of transferring the oil from the toppled tanker to another tanker yesterday morning, some of the oil spilled on the road.

That prompted the workers to call the District Fire and Rescue Station (Bomba) for assistance and advice for the safety of other road users.

District Bomba chief Suna Kaha who led a team of firemen to the scene of the mishap said they received a call from one of the workers who identified himself as Lau.

For the safety of other road users, he advised the workers to spread sand on the spillage which they complied with, Suna said.

He commended Lau for being responsible and concerned for the safety of others.
