The popular Ramadan bazaar is here again with a spread of mouth-watering local delicacies for foodies.

SIBU: Food and drink operators at the annual Ramadan bazaars across the state are reminded to observe a stringent level of hygiene and cleanliness.

State health director Datu Dr Zulkifli Jantan said officers from the Health Department would check on them regularly.

In Sibu, there are 184 food and drink stalls at the Ramadan bazaar at Sibu Town Square.

Sibu Municipal Council’s secretary Hii Chang Kee said there would be three stalls selling merchandise.

The Ramadan bazaar organising chairman Zaiton Abdul Kader said the bazaar from June 27 to July 29 was open to both Muslims and non-Muslims.

She said the Health Department would be taking samples from stalls to ensure the food and drinks were not contaminated.

Meanwhile, a food operator Yusof Leng, 52, from Kampung Hilir was spotted giving the finishing touches to his stall here yesterday.

He started decorating his stall since Wednesday.

Yusof, who traded at the bazaar each year, said his signature delicacy was cheese cake.

“I have been selling cakes every Ramadan for the past 10 years. I had even traded at the former site in front of Kampung Datu Road,” he recalled when met at his stall here yesterday.
