TBS distributes RM15.5 million this year

KUCHING: A total of RM15.5 million has been distributed by Sarawak Baitulmal (TBS) to the needy and those eligible to receive tithes from Jan 1 to June 20 this year.

On the other hand, throughout last year TBS distributed RM35.2 million for various assistance programmes to assist mosques and surau, the poor and needy including education assistance to students.

In its effort to continue providing assistance, TBS yesterday presented assistance to 49 individuals under its three programmes namely the education empowerment programme, community welfare programme and Islamic religious institution development programme.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman was present at the ceremony held at TBS headquarters yesterday.

A total of RM45,548 was distributed to 49 recipients, out of which RM24,000 was given to 20 students of higher learning institutions and RM4,800 to 10 students taking up certificate courses under the education assistance programme, RM4,048 to nine poor families and RM2,600 for religious activities funds.

Meanwhile, a total of RM3,600 was presented for various education and religious assistance programmes while RM1,500 was distributed for the purchase of surau and mosque facilities.

According to TBS in a press release distributed to members of the press at the event, TBS as the institution which has been given the role to manage tithe collection and distribution pledged to fulfil its duties to the best interest of Muslims in the state.

Among those present at the event were Sarawak Islamic Council president Datu Putit Matzen and TBS general manager Abg Mohd Shibli Abg Mohd Nailie.
