AirAsia flight skids at Brunei airport, no injuries

BRUNEI: AirAsia confirms there was an incident with Flight AK278 at Bandar Seri Begawan International Airport, Brunei today.

The aircraft, with a total of 102 passengers and 7 crew, skidded off the runway as it was landing at Bandar Seri Begawan International Airport (BWN) at approximately 4pm. The weather condition during the time of the approach was rain with slight gust.

A safe landing was made before the aircraft skidded off to the right hand side of the runway. An evacuation of the passengers was performed in an orderly manner by the crew, as soon as the surrounding areas and conditions were determined to be safe with one passenger experiencing a slight injury from it.

Our ground services personnel are currently attending to the needs of all passengers concerned and we are working together with the authorities in Brunei for the investigation of this serious incident.

All AirAsia flights to/from Bandar Seri Begawan International Airport will be operating as per scheduled on 8th July 2014.

Our team is working with the relevant authorities to identify the root cause of this incident, and AirAsia will provide further updates as necessary.
