KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) chief publicity officer Albert Kok has expressed his disappointment at Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap for maintaining that the postings of the 51 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI)-trained Chinese language teachers were not a waste of human resources and not irrelevant to what the teachers had been trained for.

Kok said the relevant authority should assign the right teachers to the right schools in order for them to fully utilise their pedagogical skills, which in turn, would benefit the students.

He said trainee teachers, who opted to major in Chinese language, clearly aspire to pass on Chinese culture and literature to the next generation, but they are placed in teaching environment that did not correspond to their training.

Kok said the Education Ministry must ensure that the postings of teachers were aligned with their preference and aptitude in order for the teachers to put their trainings to good use.

He added the people had hoped that Yap, a Chinese deputy minister, would safeguard Chinese education.

He urged Yap not to neglect the importance of preserving Chinese culture and language through Chinese education.
