KUALA LUMPUR: The German ambassador to Malaysia Holger Michael yesterday described a lawmaker’s tweet praising Adolf Hitler after Germany crushed Brazil in the World Cup as “unacceptable”.

Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin, 55,congratulated Germany with a tweet saying “Well done … Bravo … Long Live Hitler”.

In a response to the politician’s tweet, the German ambassador said in a statement: “While we appreciate the admiration for the German football team, we strongly reject the unacceptable allusion to the fascist regime of Adolf Hitler”.

Germany romped home to a record breaking 7-1 victory over Brazil to deal the host nation the worst semi-final defeat in World Cup history.

Despite coming under criticism for his “Hitler” tweet, Bung Mokhtar defended his action, saying it was done for fun.
