Curious neighbours throng the area after the alert was sounded.

MIRI: Quick-thinking neighbours at a quadruplex housing area in Tudan prevented a fire when an electric socket overheated yesterday afternoon.

Upon seeing light being repeatedly flashed from an apartment on the upper floor of the building, they dashed in to inspect. The flash was found to have come from one of the electric sockets in the house. The incident occurred around 12pm, when most residents were not around.

Neighbours called Miri Fire and Rescue Department and a fire engine carrying six firemen dashed to the scene about 14km from Miri city. Neighbours told The Borneo Post yesterday that the house owner and his family members had gone to E-Mart shopping complex early that morning.

“We called them and informed them of what had happened,” one of the neighbours said.

A small section of the kitchen was scorched by heat. It was believed sparks ignited when one of the sockets, which was still switched on, became overheated.
