Boy seriously hurt by falling durian

Final check to make sure everything is in order before the helicopter takes off.

 

KAPIT: A boy who was badly injured by a falling durian fruit had to be airlifted from Kapit Hospital to Sibu General Hospital for further treatment.

Seven-year-old Ijau was passing through a durian orchard with a group of other children near Rumah Inding, Nanga Punyai, Mujong, Baleh here around 8am on Saturday on their way to bathe in the river.

According to relatives who rushed Ijau to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital, Ijau was walking behind the group when he was hit on the right side of his face by the falling durian fruit.

Ijau sustained severe injuries on his face caused by the sharp thorns. He bled profusely and fell unconscious.

Although he regained consciousness in hospital, it was decided that he be sent to Sibu General Hospital for further treatment due to the seriousness of his injuries.

The Medevac helicopter arrived at 1.15pm and left with the patient for Sibu about 15 minutes later.

Among his relatives to send him off was Tuai Rumah Inding.

Although such incidents rarely happens, this was the second mishap after an elderly gardener was hit and injured by a falling durian fruit this fruit season.
