KUCHING: Kampung Paya Mebi PBB Welfare and Social Bureau donated cash and food rations to the needy at Kampung Paya Mebi in conjunction with Hari Raya.
The contributions were distributed to 30 recipients comprising senior citizens, single mothers and the poor through its ‘Kasih Sayang Ramadan 2014’ programme held at the village’s Al-Muhajirin Mosque on Saturday.
Kampung Paya Mebi PBB Welfare and Social Bureau chairman Shamsudin Unai said the contributions were to ease the burden of the recipients while celebrating Hari Raya together.
“This contribution is part of our annual activity held every Ramadan to help those in need and we will strive in our efforts to raise funds to continue this community service next year,” he said at the ceremony.
Among those present were Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, PBB Batu Kawa deputy chief Sahferi Tambi representing PBB Batu Kawa chief Dato Ahmad Ibrahim and Al-Muhajirin Mosque management committee chairman Sariman Edwin.
The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of cash prizes to 77 children of Kampung Paya Mebi for successes in the Khatamal Al-Quran event held throughout the month of Ramadan at the mosque.
Shamsudin, Lo, Sahferi and Sariman also joined those present for the breaking of fast at the mosque.
