Drive carefully when passing through Sadong Jaya – Rep

KUCHING: Motorists using the Sadong Jaya route to Kuching have been advised to be extra cautious when passing through village areas to avoid fatal incidents.

Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo said the new link road had led to bigger commercial vehicles with more than one axle to use the route.

“The road surface and geometry are also factors, apart from the growing number of traffic in not just Sadong Jaya but in Asajaya too,” said Aidel when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday.

“Despite some who argued about the low lighting in the area, motorists themselves should exercise extra care when using the route and abide by the speed limit.”

He added that several sections of the road in Sadong Jaya would soon be upgraded to accommodate the growing traffic volume.

There has been an increase in the number of motorists in Sadong Jaya after the Triso ferry service connecting Pusa to Sebuyau was introduced earlier last year.

This route cuts travel time from the central region to Kuching via Sadong Jaya.

On the proposed Batang Sadong bridge, which will be the longest bridge in the state, Aidel said the RM211 million project was on schedule and was expected to be completed by July 2016.

The 1.48km bridge, which connects Sebuyau to Sadong Jaya, will facilitate the movements of over 50,000 vehicles that are currently using the ferry service monthly from Asajaya and Sadong Jaya to Sebuyau, Simunjan and Pusa.
