Sarawak GOF personnel stationed in Sabah return to base next month

KUCHING: A total 400 members of the General Operation Forces (GOF) from Sarawak, who are currently stationed in Lahad Datu and Sandakan, Sabah, will end their tour of duty next month.

Sarawak GOF Brigade commander Datuk Isa Munir said he did not receive any directive from the Bukit Aman police headquarters to deploy more personnel to Sabah currently although the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) recently decided to extend curfew in six districts in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSzone).

He said there was a posibility that personnel from the GOF batalion based in the peninsula would take over from the Sarawak Brigade on duty in Sabah when the time came.

“This is to give room for the officers and personnel from the Sarawak GOF Brigade to return to base, rest and resume training,” he said at an Aidilfitri gathering organised by the Sarawak Brigade GOF at Batu Kawa, here.

Early this month, ESSCom commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun announced that the 6pm to 6am curfew in six ESSZone districts, which should have ended 14 days ago, after being implemented on July 19, had been extended to an undetermined date.-Bernama
