MELAKA: Amanah Saham Bumiputera 2 (ASB2), which is managed by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), has now breached the RM1 billion mark with more than 52,000 unitholders within four months of its launch on April 2 this year.

PNB president and group chief executive Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said the sales performance of ASB2 was better than the record made by its other unit trusts.

“With its trademark simple product features that are easy to undertstand, ASB2 will become another main choice of the Bumiputera community including the young generation or Generation Y (Gen-Y) which is the target group for the ASB2 investment.

“The achievement of more than RM1 billion since its launch is an encouraging performance,” he said to reporters after the state-level ASB2 launch ceremony, officiated by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron here yesterday.

ASB2 is the 10th unit trust managed by PNB with a fund size of RM10 billion, and is open to Bumiputera investors from six months old, with an initial affordable investment of as low as 10 units.

Hamad Kama Piah said PNB did not fix any target on when the RM10 billion investment could be achieved, as what was more important was the exposure at all levels and every nook and corner of the states to reap the benefits of ASB2.

PNB has to date mobilised close to 187.5 billion units by 12.02 million unitholders and if the unitholders’ investor funds are added to the proprietary funds, PNB now manages some RM271 billion, about 15.6 per cent of the country’s capital market.

PNB is also able to maintain a competitive income distribution rate to investors with an income distribution of RM12.88 billion last year.

Meanwhile, Idris said taking into account the multiple account holders, the rough estimate showed that over 48.66 per cent of residents in Melaka were unitholders of Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB).

Idris also said he would propose that all students of the primary and secondary schools in Melaka invest at least the minimum amount of RM10, which will be given free 10 units by PNB until December 31 this year. — Bernama
