‘No head-on for BN component parties like Teras’

BAU: There will be no two BN component parties contesting for the same seat in the upcoming state election, especially in the constituencies held by Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) leaders.

According to Teras deputy president Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, it should instead be a contest between BN and the opposition only.

“Of course, the opposition will take the opportunity (on the political upheavals between SPDP and Teras) but BN will not be making a mistake by placing two of its component parties to contest for one seat.

“It is not going to happen because it must be BN against the opposition… meaning that BN will only have one candidate and it is up to BN to pick the right candidate whom they think can win and have the support at the grassroot level,” he said when met after officiating the ‘Majlis Pemimpin Bersama Veteran dan Masyarakat’ held in conjunction with the launch of the Tabung Pahlawan Campaign 2014 and medal presentation ceremony at Kampung Sibuluh here yesterday.

Nansian, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, expressed his confidence that BN will rightfully select a winnable candidate and without a doubt, they (Teras) leaders have this capability.

“It is up to BN to determine the right candidate based on their criteria such as whether they can win, their capability, experiences and so forth. I am sure that BN will make the right decision,” he said.

Apart from Nansian, the other Teras leaders are Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom (Pakan assemblyman who is also former SPDP president), Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran (Marudi assemblyman), Paulus Palu Ngumbang (Batu Danau assemblyman) and Rosey Yunus (Bekenu assemblywoman).

Teras was approved late last year but the party appeared to be facing stiff competition from three other component parties from the state BN, namely SUPP, PRS and specifically SPDP which was the former party of all the involved Teras leaders.

Nevertheless, Nansian chided those who questioned their standing in BN.

“The answer is very simple, we are sitting in a BN government and Sarawak government where the latter is the BN government… this means that we are in BN and this is very obvious.

“Although we are in Teras, we did not leave BN and are supporting the party. We are also BN cabinet ministers as usual,” he stressed.
