KUCHING: The Ranee Boutique Suites at Main Bazaar gained an enviable position in Trip Advisor on National Day: No.1 among 47 hotels in the city.

A month earlier, the travel website, which provides reviews of travel-related content, had awarded The Ranee, named after the title of the wife of the White Rajah, with a Certificate of Excellence for positive feedback and reviews by guests.

Officially opened by Minister of Tourism Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg yesterday, The Ranee started its operations on June 1, 2012, with 24 different types of rooms: Standard Garden, Standard, Superior, Deluxe, Deluxe Twin, and Executive.

Every room is individually decorated to bring out its charm, warmth, and character.

The luxury boutique hotel occupies two 19th century shophouses that faces the Kuching Waterfront. The Ranee uses a lot of recycled wood, and is a place where natural wood intermingles with modern contemporary designs, capped with local traditional arts and crafts.

The boutique hotel boasts a meeting room, MBar and Bistro, Cafe Trios, The Ranee gift gallery, reading lounge, and free wireless internet.

The Ranee director Rosemarie Wong said they decided to launch the hotel now because all finishing touches had been done.

“We have the launch today as I feel the hotel is now at its best and how I’ve envisioned it to be,” she said.

Abang Johari described The Ranee as a beautiful and attractive boutique hotel strategically located at the heart of the city.

He acknowledged it was not easy to build and run a boutique hotel like The Ranee, and he was quick to give a vote of confidence to Wong, a player in the craft industry.

“She has been very active in the craft bazaar and during the Rainforest World Music Festival. She will be there to serve foreigners. I must congratulate her on having this beautiful and attractive boutique hotel.”

Present were Datuk Bandar of Kuching North City Commission Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, Sarawak Tourism Board chief executive officer Dato Rashid Khan and Wong’s mother-in-law Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang.
