MIRI: The Dayang Golf Challenge, which entered its fifth year, has continued to see rising interest among local and foreign golfers.

Dayang Enterprise deputy chairman James Ling is not one to rest on his laurels.

“We hope this golf tournament will raise the standard of golfing in Miri, and that it could also serve as a platform for serious golfers to bring their skills to the next level.

“Hopefully, Miri will one day produce a national golf champion,” he said at the prize presentation-cum-dinner at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club (EVGCC) on Sunday.

The two-day tournament attracted more than 350 golfers from Miri, Lawas, Limbang, Bintulu, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam this year.

The number of participants in fact hit the maximum number that the golf course could accommodate.

“In every tournament, the number of participants kept increasing and it is most regretted that we have to disappoint about 40 golfers who were on waiting list.

“Thus, we are hoping with the completion of another new 18 holes at EVGCC, perhaps we can do way with the waiting-list so everyone can participate in our next tournament later,” Ling added.

Organising and sponsoring the golf tournament is among the many corporate social responsibilities (CSR) and initiatives that Dayang Enterprise carries out every year.

Recently, the company had also organised a charity golf event held at Miri Golf Club (KGM) which raised RM20,000.

A similar amount was also raised through the charity car wash and charity movie night.

The amount collected have been donated to the MRC Kidney Dialysis Centre, the cleft lip and Palliative Care Centre of Miri.

Also present at the function were the deputy managing director Joe Ling and local businessman Tan Sri Datuk Jimmy Lau.
