Speaking at the closing of the ‘Love Our Animals’ project at SMK Methodist, he said educating the public was the most effective approach, but it would take time to take effect.

“I hope the public will play their roles, too,” he said, adding that SMC could give assistance.

Tiong noted that more people were keeping cats and dogs in recent years, but some of them were irresponsible.

“The most common sight is when kittens and puppies are not cared for.

“Their owners simply put them in carboard boxes and leave it in front of houses.”

He said the council had been saddled with this problem for some time.

“We are forced to take drastic action, especially on stray dogs. We have a special squad for this.”

Meanwhile, Ting Hieng Hock’s pet was ‘Champion Cat’, while Doreen Ting’s pet won in the ‘Best Cat’ category.

Present were organising chairman Frankie Ting, project supporter Dr Hail Harris, project secretary Tony Wong and Trioplus Corporation Sdn Bhd managing director Robert Tang who is event sponsor.
