KAPIT: Hundreds of students, teachers, and civil servants recently joined the Ministry of Health’s ‘Walk 10,000 Steps’ campaign here.

Among the participants were SMK Kapit, SMK Kapit 2 and SMK Selirik students, as well as staff from the Kapit District Council, Health Department, Bletih State Complex and federal departments.

The walk began and finished at the Kapit Civic Centre with the route taking participants through Jalan Memora, Jalan Penghulu Nyanggau, Jalan Airport, Jalan Bletih and Jalan Suhaili.

The campaign aims to encourage the people to keep fit and healthy by walking 10,000 steps a day.

Meanwhile, walking 800 metres is said to burn 50 calories, while walking 1.5km would burn roughly 100 calories.

A health worker said walking or jogging between 30 and 45 minutes daily would improve general health and strengthen cardiovascular functions.
