Apply permit for talks in advance — Police

TUMPAT: The police have urged political parties organising talks during the run-up to the Pengkalan Kubor by-election to apply for permit in advance to enable the police to mobilise its personnel effectively.

Kelantan Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department head, ACP Dahlan Mohd Noor said this was necessary as political talks held in the vicinity of roads disrupted traffic.

“Once applications are made, we will speed up the process to enable the candidates to hold their talks,” he said at a press conference in the Pengkalan Kubor marine operations base here yesterday.

He said if the organisers submitted their permit applications early, the police could assign 840 personnel to monitor traffic and ensure the talks went about smoothly.

Dahlan said, so far, the police had received five applications from the Barisan Nasional (BN) and one from PAS.

The Pengkalan Kubor by-election is a three-cornered fight involving BN candidate Mat Razi Mat Ail, Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, of PAS, and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary. — Bernama
