MIRI: PAS will contest in Beting Maro, Sebuyau, Sadong Jaya, Muara Tuang, and Tanjung Datu in the next state election.

The party is also eyeing Senadin, Satok, Jepak, Tupong, and Lambir, but fellow Pakatan Rakyat (PR) component, PKR, wants them, too. This overlapping claim may be resolved during a PR meeting this coming Oct 26.

State PAS chief Adam Ahid, who told The Borneo Post this at the PAS organised-Merdeka Day run at MYY Mall Miri yesterday, said: “We have confirmed the five seats. We will discuss with PKR on the other five seats to pick the best to represent PR through consensus.”

He added that urbans seats would be left to the DAP, the third component of the tripartite coalition.

“PAS will field young, new candidates who are professionals,” he said, adding that the party was ready for the state polls as its members had been on the ground for some time.

The Merdeka Day event, which attracted about 100 runners, ended with Abang Ashinda emerging champion in the Men’s Open category, while Lee Kin Hiong came in second and Liew Joon Kiew, third.

In the Women’s category, Vallerie Jirum won the event, piping Dona Wong Siew Koo to second place and Winnie Lio Hong Yun in third.

State PAS Youth leader Mohammad Arifiazul was also present.
