MIRI: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry hopes to set up a ‘Caring Complex’ in every state in the country, to monitor the needs of the target groups.

Its minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim in announcing this here yesterday, said with such complex all departments and agencies under her ministry would be centralised in that one vast area.

“The Caring Complex is a concept where we will gather the various activity centres such as Senior Citizen Activity Centres, Children Activity Centres, Nurseries and Transit in one place, hence acting as our eyes and ears as well.

“Members of Senior Citizen Activity Centres are also eligible to join the children who need adults’
attention to guide them in their activities including religious activities,” she said after officiating at the opening of ‘Santai Jalinan Kasih’ programme at the Senior Citizen Activity Centre in Krokop yesterday.

The programme was organised by Biro Tatanegara of the Prime Minister’s Department, Kuching, in collaboration with the Welfare Department here.

On the complex, Rohani said so far only one Caring Complex had been set up in the state, namely in Sri Aman, which was in the process of renovation and was expected to be completed this year.

All departments, agencies and activity centres including senior citizen activity centres, nurseries and clinic were centralised under that one building.

To a question, Rohani said the second complex might be set up in Selangor. However, she admitted that her ministry had difficulty looking for a land big enough for the purpose.

Earlier in her speech, Rohani said she was happy to note that the Senior Citizen Activity Centre here had been selected for the programme, in conjunction with the Biro Tatanegara’s 40th anniversary.

Through this programme, participants of the ‘Aku Ikon Patriotik’ (AkuIP) had the opportunity to hold ‘Santai Jalinan Kasih’ session with members of Senior Citizen Activity Centre and get to understand the local history.

Later Rohani handed over monetary contribution to the centre, which was received by its chairman Pemanca Wilson Siang Lim.

Over 100 senior citizens from in and around the city attended the function and among those present were.

Also present were deputy director-general of Biro Tatanegara Malaysia Dr Hanafi Harun, state director of Biro Tatanegara based in Kuching Sopian Bujang, and Welfare Department assistant director Goh Yong Kiat.
