Riot to be guest-of-honour at Malam Deepavali

KUCHING: The Indian Association Kuching (IAK), led by president Anthony Ramanair, recently called on Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri Richard Riot at the Perkeso office here.

The call was made to brief the minister on the activities of the association, its contribution to the Indian community in Kuching and to invite him to grace the Malam Deepavali 2014 Dinner, an annual event organised by the association, on November 8 at Dewan IAK, Kuching.

The minister said he was deeply honoured to be invited by the association and confirmed his attendance.

This year, Deepavali falls on Oct 22.

Ramanair informed the minister that various events have been planned for the Malam Deepavali, which include crowning of Deepavali Queen 2014 and presentation of education awards to members’ children who excelled in the 2013 UPSR, PMR, SPM and STPM examinations.

He also said various cultural shows, including a troupe from India, will entertain guests with dances, music and songs.

Tickets priced at RM50 and RM35 each are on sale.
