KUCHING: A total of 158 Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sarawak Branch leaders from 11 chapters and two leaders from Sabah Branch met during a convention here recently.

A syndicate group discussion in progress.

A press release said the event aimed to introduce concepts, strategies, methodologies and best practices in planning, developing and implementing volunteering development and management for
more efficient humanitarian services.

Themed ‘Committed to Volunteering, Our Strength, Our Future’, it was hosted by MRC Stampin chapter to coincide with the MRC Sarawak Branch annual Volunteers’ Recognition Night 2014.

Two delegates from the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) — organisational development delegate Naomi Akamatsu and MRC volunteer Dr Jeyathesan Kulasingam, who is currently in Syria as a health delegate under the IFRC (Middle East and North Africa Zone) — were the speakers.

Outputs from the syndicate discussions were collated and crystallised to establish a framework for formulating the Year of Volunteer and Volunteering 2015 to 2016 programme for MRC Sarawak Branch and its chapters.

Participants also joined
three separate tree planting projects held by the Forest Department, Kuching City South Council and Padawan Municipal Council.
