Royalty graces Pencak Silat Final

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, graced the final of the Tutong District Seni Pencak Silat Competition in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 68th Birthday anniversary for the Tutong District yesterday, Brudirect reported.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince’s son, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim took part in two categories of the competition, namely the Seni Jurus Bebas Solo for Children and the Mixed Seni Silat Festival for Children.

Upon arrival at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Tutong Sports Complex, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri were greeted by the organising Committee of the competition. The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by the Tutong District Mosque Affairs Officer, Awg Jaya bin Haji Yahya.

Their Royal Highnesses consented to watch five final categories of 7 events held in the afternoon. His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim represented the silat team from International School Brunei Darussalam (ISB). The event was organised by the Tutong Branch of the Youth and Sports Department with the cooperation of the Silat Association of Brunei Darussalam (PERSIB). This time, the competition also involved the participation of ISB, the Silat Scheme of the Tutong Branch Youth and Sports Department and the Perguruan Seni Silat Warisan Pelangi, Lumut A Dan B.

The competition was one of the prestigious Sports Development programmes conducted by the Youth and Sports Department towards meeting the requirement of the National Sports Policy to achieve excellence in sports by making the championship as a new mechanism for identification and the finding of sports talents with the potential of being given systematic guidance and training involving the Youth and Sports Department branches in the four districts.

His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim won the third place in the Seni Jurus Bebas Solo category for children. Meanwhile, the Silat Team from ISB was the champion in the Mixed Seni Silat Festival Category for Children, and received the Appreciation Prize for the Best Team for 2014. Silat participants, Muhammad Hasif bin Haji Alisam and Nur Izatul Fatihah Haji Hazam, received the prize for Best in Seni Silat Solo performance and for Best in image presentation. Prizes were presented by the Tutong District Officer, Awg Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali.
