USM Health Campus uses owls to address rat problem

KOTA BAHARU: The Universiti Sains Malaysia(USM) Health Campus in Kubang Kerian here has succeeded in controlling the rat population at its premises.

Chairman of the ‘Kampus Bersih Sejahtera’ Committee, Professor Din Suhaimi Sidek, said the rat population at the campus was controlled using various periodical approaches, including the ecobiological method.

The ecobiological method involved the use of owls to catch the rats, he told a media conference here yesterday.

He was responding to a newspaper report on the unhygienic condition and rat problem at the campus.

On a claim of food poisoning among students at the campus, Din Suhaimi said the university had not received any report on food poisoning affecting students at the campus. — Bernama
