Siblings escape burning house while parents away

MIRI: Two siblings managed to escape from their wooden house in Tanjong Berlipat, Niah before it was destroyed by a fire around 2pm yesterday.

Batu Niah volunteer firefighters dousing water on the still smoking remains of the house.

The girl, 13, and her six-year-old brother had just eaten their lunch when they spotted the flames.

A team of volunteer firefighters from Batu Niah rushed to the scene upon receiving a call from members of the public.

One fire engine with seven firemen from Miri Fire and Rescue Department dashed to the scene but they could not save the house.

The children’s father was away working while their mother came home from a nearby town to find the house razed.

There were no fatalities.
