KUALA LUMPUR: National swimmer, Jamery Siga is determined to collect at least one gold medal for the national contingent at the Asian Para Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Malaysia’s 198-strong contingent will be participating in 15 events at the Games from Oct 18 to 25.

Jamery, who is appearing at the largest sporting event in Asia for paralympians for the second time, delivered three silver and two bronze medals at the Guangzhou Asian Para Games in 2010.

“This time, I will be participating in six swimming events and I hope to collect gold in my favourite event, the 50m butterfly,” he told Bernama, here yesterday.

The six events are 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 200m IM (Individual Medley), 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Jamery said he is confident of cracking his personal record of 39.54 seconds for the 50m butterfly and winning the gold medal.

“I am confident I can do it…as I have been improving in my practice. I hope to prove that the less advantaged people can also bring glory to the country and qualify for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games in Brazil,” he said. — Bernama
