Number of Malaysian militants killed, injured unconfirmed

KUALA LUMPUR: The Syrian authorities and Islamic State militant group (IS) have not confirmed the identities and number of Malaysians injured and killed when participating in militant activities, says Home Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said although the ministry had the information from intelligence sources, it was not confirmed by the Syrian authorities and IS.

“We did not make any contact with them but I am sure of the information  I have in my hand … nevertheless, I will not read (the information) to all. We know who they are, who died and so on … we know.

“As we do not have official confirmation from the parties in conflict, we cannot make any official announcement,” he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.

On another development, Wan Junaidi said the outcome of police investigations into a hand-grenade explosion in Bukit Bintang recently, would be announced soon. – Bernama

On Thursday, it was reported that a car jockey, Tiong Kwong Yie, 36, was killed and 12 others, including foreign tourists, were seriously injured during a hand-grenade attack in front of a nightclub at the Sun Complex.

Initial police investigations revealed that the attack was linked to a ‘turf war’ involving secret societies. — Bernama
